Security in the Internet of Things is OUR priority

Egeon Technology - IoT Seguridad por DiseñoThe Iot keeps exponentially growing, adding many other devices to the network built by the ones that we daily already use. It is hard to find a TV that doesn’t connect to the internet, same than most appliances. It is a great gift that we are able to enjoy all the possibilities that this connection serves us, but are we aware of its “dangers” and consequences? Do we count on “safe” appliances in our homes? Are they secure enough?

Cybersecurity awareness is slowly increasing, but we are still far enough to what we should consider. As in the user´s minds, it’s not a priority yet. They don’t expect hackers to see them as their victims, and they let their security in hands of their WiFi or router service provider, which they haven’t even configured with a new password different than the provided yet. As a result, all these devices are vulnerable and refrigerators are used for “spam”, or even worse, to coordinately attack certain web sites.

From the perspective of companies and industry, always considering price over security, this is considered and unnecessary over cost. Also, they think that they are secured enough with computers that are malware protected. But the reality is that they are still very vulnerable and any hacker attack means an extreme lost.

Hardware Security

Considering all this, the main and biggest problem that the IoT needs to face is the insecurity attached to the network connected devices. This has been our main concern during last years and therefore we have developed our own security systems based on hardware.

We use this technology in all of our products, so every communication and data is delivered with a high-level security attached, which equals the specifications required for military devices.

In this article, published by “El Confidencial” newspaper on the 28th of March, 2017, you’ll find a brief explanation about the current situation in IoT security.

4YFN – Goal accomplished, Thank you!

Our stay in the 4YFN (4 Years From Now) trade show was incredibly satisfying. Firstly, we got the chance to get a more accurate idea about what is now trending in the technological sector, which includes solutions that will be available in the next months rather than in the next 4 years. We could also increase our network by including new companies whose main activities are very related to Egeon’s.

By other hand, we have achieved what the fair aims for us, small and medium companies. The main purpose of the fair is to connect emerging technological companies with investors that can financially support and push their creations anytime those small companies have certain guarantee success and look suitable to the investors criteria. We have gotten to the investor’s attention as Egeon Technology being a to-watch-and-cooperate company, to a point that they have listened to all of our products and solutions and we have obtained a very positive feedback

It is also remarkable the interest that came from visitors and, especially, by other exhibitors who found in our projects a perfect fit for their own solutions.

During the 4YFN, there were many Software, Cloud and Apps kind of projects and products. All these ones represent the end of the information transfer process where the treatment and presentation of data takes place. But what about the information? Where could we find devices that create and manage the information? Egeon Technology was the only one that could give response to this concern. With the devices, we are the only company that can generate all this data. Our work is to create the doors that enable data to be measurable. It is the first level of the information procedure. It is with Egeon’s Hardware that all those other products can have the data to work with.

Although it’s still too early to determine the success of the presence of Egeon Technology in the 4YFN, we keep very positive thoughts and feelings about it. This is why we want to thank all of you who came to visit our stand and paid attention and respect for our IoT-solutions.

We want to also thank MovilForum, from Telefonica, for having us this year, and vey especially to Miguel Angel Fernández Ros for his respect, support, efficiency and all the attention and dedication he paid to us.

Egeon Technology introduce their “TrackingBox” solution during the 4YFN tradeshow

During the 4YFN tradeshow (4 Years From Now) Egeon Technology  introduce their logistical solution “TrackingBox”. It manages and measures transport quality and the wholeness of the goods. It is also a great tool that allows the tracking and supervision of the transport of delicate and/or high value goods.

The 4YFN is an international tradeshow organized by Barcelona Mobile Word Capital during the GSMA Mobile World Congress, taking place in Barcelona from February 27th to March 1st.  Its goal is to create a network of startups, investors and corporations. EGEON Technology’s booth is the O3.3, located at the M8 pavilion of the Montjuic fair.

The “TrackingBox” solution from Egeon Technology

As with every other solution developed by Egeon Technology, the whole system is composed of one or more individual IoT devices: the TrackingBox, an event management software platform and for certain scenarios, a cell phone app.

The TrackingBox  devices are modifiable according to the preferences of the user by choosing sensors based on their preferred parameters. This allows the device to be geo-located and measures multiple physical parameters: impact, position, temperature, humidity, pressure, light and openingamong others.

The devices is attached to the container, box or the good itself and it registers every data obtained by its sensors in the internal memory. The frequency of measurement is defined by the user accorded to the via of transport and kind of goods.

Once the vehicle has arrived to its destiny, all the data is analyzed, which allows the user to know the conditions and specifications of the route including impacts, falls, humidity, cold chain failure, excessive heat, etc

When the versions include communication systems like 3G/4G, GPRS, SIGFOX…, it is possible to periodically send information whenever the scenario allows the function of the selected system.

The main goal of this solution is to measure the quality of the offered service and, whenever there is a damage of the goods, it’ll let you know how, when and where this happened.

Egeon Technology will introduce their “eButton” solution during the 4YFN tradeshow

During the 4YFN tradeshow (4 Years From Now) Egeon Technology will introduce their “eButton” active marketing solution, developed to promote customer service and substantially increase sales for every kind of business or service. Also, when applied in certain scenarios, it is a strong management and human resources tool.

The “eButton” solution from Egeon Technology

The whole system is composed of one or more individual IoT devices: the eButton, an event management software platform and for certain scenarios, a cell phone app.

Devices are placed in those departments of the store where advice of a specialized associate is required or where a specific service could be requested.

When the eButton is pushed, a message is sent to the event management platform via GPRS, 3G/4G, WiFi or other networks.

The platform registers and analyzes every message, taking a predefined action according to each button: push, email, sms, customer service assistance, cart, mobile app…

Among multiple immediate benefits from this solution, a substantial increase in sales and customer service quality are most notable, as well as recognizing customer purchasing pattern and the improvement in management of human resources.

Egeon Technology will introduce their Find&Rescue system during the 4YFN tradeshow

During the 4YFN tradeshow (4 Years From Now) Egeon Technology will introduce their telematic management system of emergency teams, called “Find & Rescue”. It’s developed in collaboration with SAMUR Civil Protection from Madrid City and the technological support from CrossThings.

The “Find&Rescue” system from EgeonTechnology

Every member of the assistance team would carry a device that allows the central and/or the control manager to have an on-line global view of the distribution of the team.  This will allow the responsible center to also know the exact location of each member of the staff and, therefore, manage a critical situation more effectively.

The immediate response and clarity of the scenario that this device provides makes it one of the latest technologies for solving this situation. It is when the carrier falls or stops for longer than usual and/or leaves the defined area that it pulls a signal of alarm that the control center will receive and act forward already prepared for the circumstances of the scenario.

Each device sends live data received by the sensors to the events management platform. Using cartography, it locates every control unit around one location or simultaneously multiple locations, which make these events manageable not only from the responsible control center but also from the head coordinator of the event.

Welcome to the Egeon Technology Blog!

This site is aimed not only to present you every and each one of our current solutions and projects, but also to increase the awareness about the importance, and thereof, necessity of the security applied to internet connected devices. Privacy of the information backed up or sent via these devices is key.

Since IoT use is expanding, we keep hearing about new and more modern devices that are part of a greater network “more connected”, capable of managing all information happening in the surrounding area and send it over to a control center or cell phone. Although this amazing situation gives us an answer for most of our necessities or even improves or quality of life, it misses one key point: what about security? or better said, what about the insecurity of this devices?

As a general assumption, most of the users don’t expect to become hacker victims, so they are not worried about security matters. Manufactures haven’t either shown any concern about it, so they delegate this task to the router who will provide different internet providers or security measures so the user choose, often not even considering it necessary, in order to protect its own system.

On the contrary, our main goal and concern, is to achieve a safe IoT. This is the way we work with all of our products, although there is still a lot to do. With this Blog we’ll keep you updated with our progress, achievements and I0T security.

We hope you enjoy it and find it interesting.
